Zylo eyewear has joined forces with PALIVOU ESTATE in Nemea on a limited run of Zylo’s “Wave” and “Oscar” frame styles.

This collection is crafted from genuine red wine oak barrels. Each frame is numbered and unique.

An old farm with many vines surrounding, tell a story of a long. Since 1995, when the old traditional treading tank was replaced by a contemporary winery, following the demands of modern times, Palivou Estate began its new, extremely dynamic era.
In a place, which has been characterized as name of Origin for what is probably the most important Greek red variety Agiorgitiko, Palivou Estate owns one of the two largest vineyards in the zone of NEMEA. More than 300 stremmas (area equal to 1000km) planted mostly with Agiorgitiko, but also with Rodites, Malagousia, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah can lavishly offer wines of quality names.

Palivou Estate is located in the heart of the historic Ancient Nemea Valley in the Peloponesse. The estate is owned by George Palivos and his wife, Angeliki. While the vineyards have been in the family for one hundred fifty years, winemaking in Nemea has existed for 3,500 years.

George Palivos’ philosophy as a wine maker is simple. He believes that the wine is made in the vineyard and not in the winery. He pays particular attention to the terroir in order to yield high quality wine. The environment is perfect for making robust fruity wines with high acidity thereby giving a beautifully balanced wine. The vineyards are 1400-2133 feet above sea level in a mountainous region near the Bay of Corinth. The red chalky soil, the cool breeze of bay and steep slopes yield the ideal conditions for creating beautiful wines. Mr. Palivos states that he lets the vineyard make the wine, fully respecting Mother Nature.

Every pair of sunglasses is accompanied by a semi hard case and the soy wax salve container. You can’t always avoid having your glasses scratched or bent, but there are a lot of things you can do to preserve the clarity of your lenses and integrity of your frames.

During the final stages of crafting a pair of sunglasses, every model is covered with a thin coat of this salve. This natural mixture is handmade by us and it consists of 100% white bee’s wax/soy wax and extra virgin olive oil. This procedure makes the frame water-repellent and lightens up the wooden grain, providing a semi-gloss finish. Since wood is a living entity, from time to time it is needs your care. wʊd | WOOD [noun] The hard fibrous material that forms the main substance of a tree or shrub. Often cut and used as timber or fuel.

This is a plain description. Reality is, of course, much bigger than just a few words put together. That’s because the material is alive. It has an odour. It breathes and ages with you, as does everything around us in this world. These are facts that the Mediterranean people understand because they are surrounded by nature and live at a different pace with her. We wanted to dismiss plain descriptions found in books that may distract us from the living material. With the wood combinations and designs we create, we want to satisfy most of the aesthetic demands of those interested in our sunglasses. That’s because we believe that wooden eyewear is not a luxury item, but an artifact that comes from good technique, attention to detail, and care for the material and the final outcome. And this is something that everyone should be able to enjoy.
